Highlights - Presenting the Draft report on the Commission proposal for a Traineeships Directive - Committee on Employment and Social Affairs

European Parliament - Mon, 03/31/2025 - 11:13
During the EMPL Committee meeting on 18 March 2025, rapporteur Alicia Homs Ginel (S&D, ES) presented her draft report on the Commission proposal for the Traineeships Directive. Recent data shows that up to 78% of 18 to 35-year-olds in the EU undertake a traineeship - a figure projected to rise 16% by 2030. However, many trainees face less favourable conditions than regular employees.

The Commission's proposal focuses on combatting regular employment relationships disguised as traineeships and to improve genuine trainee´s working conditions.

In her draft report the EMPL rapporteur aims to strengthen the Commission proposal by broadening its scope and by introducing a clear definition of traineeships. Deadline of amendments to the draft report is 25 March 2025 at noon.

Hearings - EMPL-JURI Joint hearing - Rights of children in alternative care - 18-03-2025 - Committee on Legal Affairs - Committee on Employment and Social Affairs

European Parliament - Mon, 03/24/2025 - 16:01
On 18 March 2025, JURI and EMPL Members held a public hearing on the protection and promotion of the rights of children placed in alternative care

The public hearing was inspired by the ENYA recommendations on protection and promotion of the rights of children in alternative care and EC recommendations on developing and strengthening integrated child protection systems in the best interest of the child, as requested by VP Ewa Kopacz, EP Coordinator on Children's Rights. EMPL and JURI Committees had the opportunity to follow the cycle of stages that the child face when finding himself/herself in the need of being placed outside the biological family.

The Committees heard on preventive measures against family separation, child rights and cooperation between the justice and social care systems in different types of care proceedings, state of play on deinstitutionalization in EU and foster care and on the situation of young people who leave care systems.

The hearing was informed by the children's voice put together in ENYA recommendations and presented by the Chair of the European Network of Ombudsmen for Children.

Coexistence with wolves in a changing Romania

LIFE+ - Fri, 11/30/2018 - 12:00

Human and wolf coexistence is a complex challenge with deep historical roots. In Romania changing farming communities, expanding national infrastructure and fragmented habitats mean that the human–wolf relationship needs ever-closer attention.
